Summer is the time for fun, vacations, and making memories–at least it should be. Too often people get sick and can’t enjoy the special moments. Xlear is here to make sure that doesn’t happen to you. Here are three summer sinus problems you need to be aware of.

1. Recreational Water Illnesses (RWIs)

Swimming in a pool, lake, river, or ocean and hot tubbing are very popular summer time activities. Unfortunately the water in these areas can develop bacteria. With your face and nose (and thus sinuses) exposed to the water, it’s easy to develop infections in the sinuses or ears, a condition commonly known as swimmer’s ear. But don’t the chemicals we put in public swimming areas kill the germs? In short, yes, but they do so in different amounts of time depending on the germ. And those chemicals can also cause problems for your health. It’s best to take care and be sure you’re keeping your sinuses clean by rinsing them out after being in the water.

2. Allergies

Spring is known for causing the worst allergies, with fall being a close second. But summer is not so friendly either. Pollen can still be a problem depending on what part of the country you’re in, especially if the wind picks up. Trees may be done pollinating, but grasses and weeds are still wreaking havoc. Ragweed tends to be the worst culprit with a lot of pollen that can travel long distances. So even if you live in an area that doesn’t have ragweed, you could still be affected by it.

3. Summer Cold

It shouldn’t be surprising, but people can get a cold even when it’s not cold outside. Weather doesn’t make people sick—germs do. So even during summer time, you can get sick. Some may not be able to distinguish a cold from allergies. The best way to differentiate is allergy symptoms are consistent and unrelenting, while cold symptoms may ebb and flow. Also, a person with a cold will have mucus that is yellow, whereas an allergy-sufferer will have clear. In either case though, it’s important to keep your nose clean.
